The world knows Lorde, the international pop phenomenon, for her brooding yet upbeat music and her loving and tender personality. But the world is still getting to know the singer’s younger sister, India “Indy” Yelich-O’Connor, as a talented, up-and-coming poet who has made a name for herself on Instagram for her insightful thoughts she shares.
Now, Yelich-O’Connor has shared a part of herself that she has long kept quiet about. On Tuesday, the writer took to Twitter and simply wrote: “Plot twist (I like boys and girls).” The tweet was met with an immediate response from her fans, each replying to tell her how proud they were of her decision to come out.
Yelich-O’Connor later tweeted out a message of thanks to her fans, saying that she was overwhelmed with the amount of love and support sent her way. “Today was so amazing. I had so many messages of support & the sun was shining, and I just love New York,” she wrote. “So grateful for my life and all the people in it. And I can’t wait for my book tour.”
The young writer is currently promoting her debut book of poetry, Sticky Notes. The book examines “her experiences with love, travel, and self-discovery in a shifting physical and emotional geography,” and has received largely positive reviews from critics.
