In the past few years, we’ve seen a number of pop artists go through their country phase. Lady Gaga took a famous stab at the genre with Joanne, Miley Cyrus returned to her roots with Younger Now, and even Beyoncé sang her own version of a country banger with “Daddy Lessons” from Lemonade.
Now, pop legend Kylie Minogue is strapping on her cowgirl boots for her upcoming album Golden. If the first single “Dancing” was the singer dipping her toe in the waters of country-pop, then her new song “Stop Me From Falling,” and its accompanying video, is Minogue doing a cannonball.
In the video for “Falling,” Minogue sings at and dances around a honky tonk bar dressed in cowgirl jeans, boots and a frilly blouse. “I don’t know how, I don’t know where/ But we’re becoming more than friends/ Getting closer to the edge / Stop me from falling,” she sings to a stomp-clapping crowd.
Golden marks Minogue’s first album with record company BMG. When she signed her deal with the label in February 2017, Kylie promised her fans that her new record would be as authentic as possible. “I promise you will have my heart and soul in this next record,” she wrote on Instagram.
