Country starlet Kacey Musgraves and All Stars 3 winner Trixie Mattel have a lot in common. The two are both critically acclaimed country music songwriters with huge personalities and fervent fans who want nothing more than to see as much of them as possible.
So it’s no surprise that in an interview with GQ, Kacey Musgraves not only knew who Trixie Mattel was, but offered up an idea for a potential collaboration between the two artists.
Mattel was first brought up in the interview when Musgraves was asked about working with Dolly Parton, who Trixie has repeatedly said is one of the main inspirations for her music. When asked if she knew who Trixie was, Musgraves answered simply: “Yes. Amazing.”
Musgraves was then asked if she would ever want to work with Mattel. “I’ve always wanted to be a judge on Drag Race,” the singer said. “How fun would it be to do a live mash-up of one of [Trixie’s] songs and ‘Dime Store Cowgirl.’ Or ‘Follow Your Arrow,’ duh.” (Upon listening and re-listening to both of these songs, a mash-up of “Moving Parts” and “Follow Your Arrow” would, in fact, be amazing.)
She took it even further, saying that she would love to put Mattel in one of her music videos. “What if she played me? Brunette wig? I wonder if she would,” she said. “What if the whole video, you never see the front of her? It’s just the back. And big hair and stuff. And at the very end, it’s not even me the whole f—ing video! Oh, that would be amazing. OK, I’ll get to work on that.”
Mattel told Billboard that she loves Musgraves’ music and put “Follow Your Arrow” on her One Stone playlist. “I love people like Kacey Musgraves,” the drag star said. “She is super, super progressive considering she’s a country music star and has lines in her songs about smoking weed or maybe kissing a girl once in a while.”
