Jaimie Wilson turned heads with the powerful duet “Everything Is New,” a duet between his pre-transition and post-transition voices.
Now, in a show of solidarity and protest against the Trump administration’s devastating policy memo that would alter the definition of gender under Title IX — and would have longstanding ramifications toward the treatment of trans and gender non-binary people — the singer-songwriter premiered a new song titled “We #WontBeErased” on Wednesday (Oct. 24).
The track, which features a rapped verse from producer Jehry Robinson, turns the protest hashtag that blew up social media into a musical rallying cry.
It speaks to the importance of empathy and acceptance of all people, especially trans people, in a time when vitriol and hate seem to reverberate in social media and among political leaders. “You can’t change everything you don’t understand,” he sings.
“We #WontBeErased” also comes with a visual that is simple but effective. Showcasing a slideshow of young trans people– “only a handful,” writes Wilson, “of the 1.4 million who will be directly affected by trumps memo if it’s made a reality” — he drives home the point that trans people from all walks of life will be affected if the memo becomes a reality.
