Most people know Hayley Kiyoko as the “Lesbian Jesus” phenomenon of pop music. But along with her career in music, the artist behind Expectations has an entire acting career too, with roles in films like Jem and the Holograms and XOXO, and television shows like CSI: Cyber and Insecure.
Now, Kiyoko is adding yet another credit to her acting résumé: The “Curious” singer is set to be featured in the upcoming Facebook Watch series Five Points. The show, executive produced by Scandal star Kerry Washington, follows five teenagers at a Chicago high school as they witness a “life-changing event” that impacts each of their lives.
In a new trailer for the series, we see Kiyoko as Lexi, a teenager labeled as “an outsider.” While we don’t get much insight into who she is as a person, we do see a scene in which she is confronted by a group of girls asking her why she’s “such a freak” in the bathroom. “I’m so sick of worrying what other people think,” she declares.
We get small hints regarding the event as well — Kiyoko confronts one of the characters saying, “I don’t know what you think you saw,” and later we see her blood-stained hand tenderly taking the hand of another unseen character.
We can gather that Kiyoko’s character is most definitely a talented musician, much like the star herself, from a previous clip released on the show’s Facebook page. With the caption “High Schooler RIPS IT on guitar! Must see,” we watch as Kiyoko’s Lexi performs a rocked-out guitar solo of Beethoven’s “Für Elise.”
Five Points debuts June 4 on Facebook Watch. Watch the trailer for the upcoming show below:
