While she may be known for making pristine, uplifting pop songs, “Lesbian Jesus” herself has a dark side. And on her newest single, she’s letting viewers take a closer look at it.
On Friday (Oct. 11), pop star Hayley Kiyoko unveiled her new single “Demons,” a glitching, spooky single that sees the singer battling with her own thoughts — or rather the monsters that plague them. As the grimy, nearly-8-bit beat blasts through the track, Kiyoko gives new meaning to the phrase “fighting your inner demons” as she sings “Tryna eat me, tryna feed me lies until I’m dead/ Please forgive me I’ve got demons in my head.”
The new single is a part of Kiyoko’s upcoming new project, titled I’m Too Sensitive For This Shit, which the star announced via Instagram on Thursday. “I’m going to release a collection of songs from now through January,” she wrote. “This project is about all of these feelings I’ve been learning to embrace because they are what make me, well, me. And it’s dedicated to you. I hope you love them like I love you.”
It’s already been a big year for Kiyoko — the star appeared in Taylor Swift’s blockbuster, VMA-winning “You Need To Calm Down” video, and is now set to be honored with The Trevor Project’s Youth Innovator Award at their upcoming TrevorLIVE gala.
