Ever since founding social media music label Heard Well with Jeremy Wineberg and Andrew Graham, YouTube star Connor Franta has made it his goal to speak openly about the issues he cares about. Now, he’s found a brand new way to do it.
Franta has announced his new web-series with Heard Well and streaming platform Caffeine titled Loud & Clear, a roundtable talk show where each week, the star will sit down with different internet personalities to discuss timely topics that don’t often get discussed.
The first episode, premiering live tonight (Tuesday, April 9) at 7:00 p.m. EST on Caffeine (and later uploaded to YouTube), will focus on burnout and mental health, with internet stars Gabbie Hanna, Scotty Sire and Eva Gutowski joining Franta for the discussion.
Franta tells Billboard that he wanted to make the series so his young viewers could find a safe place where the issues they care about are being discussed. “2019 is a whacky time to be alive, and personally, I don’t want to cover my eyes and wait for it to be over,” he says. “It’s important to use this as an opportunity to educate ourselves and build towards a better, inclusive future for everyone. So, let’s talk about it and see where we want to go.”
The show’s first topic of mental health was an important choice for Franta, who says that he has been battling anxiety and depression for years. But he also wanted to talk about the subject in the context of our current political situation. “I think there’s a direct correlation between our first panel topic and how overwhelmed everyone is by politics, the 24 hour news cycle and the constant suppression of US minority groups by our current administration,” he says. “Sadly, it appears to only be getting worse, so we need to band together and try to find a way to cope with this alarming issue.”
Teasing that future episodes would include topics ranging from LGBTQ issues to musicians on YouTube, Franta says that his main goal is to make Loud & Clear a place where real change can take place. “I want this to be a liberating show where we can lift the vail on taboo topics, be open about our struggles, and ultimately, discuss how we can do better,” he says.
The first episode of Loud & Clear will be available to watch live on Caffeine at 7 p.m. EST tonight.
