Charli XCX and Troye Sivan go back in time to “1999.” And they get their Matrix on (and a bit of Britney).
The infectious, nostalgic pop number dropped overnight and is accompanied by a fetching piece of artwork which sees Charli and ?Troye decked out like Neo and Trinity from The Matrix which, yup, came out in 1999. Oh, and there’s a classic ’90s Britney Spears reference.
“I just wanna go back, back to 1999/Take a ride to my old neighbourhood/I just wanna go back, sing/’Hit me baby, one more time,” Charli sings.
“1999” is the final single of Charli’s 2018 summer single collection, and it comes on the heels of Sivan’s top 5 sophomore album release, Bloom. Stream it below.
