For Gay Pride Month, Billboard asked numerous pop culture luminaries to write ‘love letters’ to the LGBTQ community. Below, CeCe Peniston — whose 1991 hit “Finally” is a gay club classic — shares hers. Read more Pride Month love letters here.
I wanted to give a shout to LGBTQ community for loving me for the past 25 years. I had no idea my song “Finally” would be such a staple all over the world, and especially with the gay community .
You don’t know how many times people have come up to me and shared how much my songs and performances have brought back beautiful memories for them. The 90s was such a great time in music. To be a part of so many weddings, and celebrations of life in general, that had to do with that word — ‘finally.’ Pride festivals all over the world and Broadway shows like Priscilla Queen of the Desert gave the song continued life.
I want to thank everyone in the LGBTQ community who continues to love me to this day — and all the fans, booking agents, labels, peers and music lovers all of the world. I love and appreciate you.
