Britain-based artist Calum Scott has released a brand new music video for his song “No Matter What” off of his debut album Only Human.
The video follows multiple younger versions of Scott dealing with bullying and prejudice from his friends and classmates for being gay, while his mother constantly provides comfort, saying she loves him “no matter what.”
In a statement, Scott said the song is easily the most personal piece of music he has ever written. “It’s a song born from loneliness and the heartbreaking but liberating tale of my coming-out experience,” he explained. “What I love about this song is that it isn’t just limited to a story of sexual identity, but about the relationship between parent and child and acceptance as a whole.”
Scott has made a name for himself as one to watch in the pop industry. After competing on and making it to the finals of Britain’s Got Talent, the 30-year-old singer released his viral cover of Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own.”
