The 2020 presidential election is right around the corner, and Bob the Drag Queen, Eureka O’Hara and Shangela are ready to get their fans to the polls.
On Wednesday (Oct. 21), GLAAD posted a new video starring the trio from HBO’s We’re Here titled “We’re Here. We’re Queer. We Vote,” where the former Drag Race stars teamed up with other queens from all across the country to encourage their fans to get out and vote on Nov. 3. “You know how people say we’re different?” Bob asked, before Eureka finished her thought: “Well, let’s make a difference!”
The queens then started an official “roll call” for drag queens from all 50 states, where short clips of queens encouraging their fans to get out and vote flooded the video. “A staggering 100 million people didn’t vote in the last election,” Maine’s Cherry Lemonade said in her clip. “And look what happened.”
Throughout the video, some of the queens shared what they were voting for in the election, with many pointing to the current administration’s continued rollback of transgender rights in America, including access to healthcare, housing, adoption and much more. “As queer people watching this, your vote matters too,” Drag Race alum Leila McQueen said from her home state of Massachusetts. “We need to elect people who are going to be looking out for us.”
Speaking about the new video, Shangela said in a statement that she wanted to make sure her queer fans knew what was at stake in this election. “It’s imperative that we as an LGBTQIA community stand together and make our voices heard loud and clear during this election,” she said. “There is a great deal at stake for us and those who love like us, and if we don’t win, the conservative agenda will push back any progress on equality that we’ve achieved in the last decade.”
