Rapper Azealia Banks lit a fire that has been raging across all of Gay Twitter for the last few days. What started out with Banks claiming that RuPaul plagiarized her song “The Big Big Beat” evolved into a series of tweets criticizing everything from RuPaul’s Drag Race to Monét X Change and LGBTQ culture that ended with the rapper getting her account deactivated.
After seeing Banks get into a fight with her sister Monét X Change earlier this week, Bob the Drag Queen released a series of tweets and a video criticizing the rapper. In a video entitled “Dear Ms. Banks,” Bob starts off by addressing the co-opting of queer black culture before issuing a verse rapped over RuPaul’s “Read U Wrote U,” dissing Banks for her behavior.
“Let’s take a second to look at all the facts; you attack women, queers and other blacks,” Bob raps in the video. “You prefer old white men? Good to know. ‘Cause after this they’ll be the only people at your show.”
The queen also accuses Banks of constantly profiting off of LGBTQ culture while simultaneously disrespecting it. “You take our music, our clothes, our rags and shit, get on a plane, turn around and calls us f–s and shit?” Bob asks, referencing an incident when the rapper was caught on video hurling homophobic slurs at a flight attendant.
The Drag Race season 8 winner’s comments came after season 10 queen and Bob’s sister Monét X Change exchanged tweets directly with Banks before the rapper’s account was deactivated. After being told her “crotch is rotting and fermenting under that sour mildew ass girdle” by Banks, Monét responded by telling the rapper, “Obscurity is where you shall exist.”
Bob followed up his video with a few tweets, saying that while Banks may identify as bisexual, that does not mean that she is unable to offend the LGBTQ community. “For the record I know Azaelia identifies as bisexual, but that does not stop [her] from being an enemy to the queer community,” he wrote. “CONSTANT transphobic, and homophobic statements paired with Trump support means you’re done.”
In his final tweet, the winner of season 8 asked his fans to support artists another black queer artist instead of Banks: bounce legend Big Freedia. “I’m hoping off Twitter for now,” he wrote. “In the meanwhile if you’re looking for a black queer artist to fill the void that the talented Azaelia [sic] Banks left, and she IS truly talented, try @bigfreedia She’s talented too.”

And when a celebrity promotes a political candidate it’s even bigger than voting for them yourself, because they convince others to do so as well.
