Billy Porter‘s individuality shines on and off the red carpet–and he doesn’t care what anyone has to say about it.
The star faced some criticism after he appeared on Sesame Street in his iconic Oscars dress. The show’s Instagram post highlighting Porter’s “fierce vibes” was met by homophobic comments from people who thought the look resembled “perverted demon sex.”
In an interview with Page Six Style, Porter had a simple, yet effective response to shut down the haters. “If you don’t like it, don’t watch it,” he said. “Like, what about me singing with a penguin [on the show] has anything to do with what I’m doing in my bedroom?”
“The really interesting thing for me is that that’s what it’s all about when it comes to LGBTQ people—the first thing everyone wants to talk about is how we having sex,” he continued. “Stay out of my bedroom and you will be fine—that is none of your business.”
Sesame Street‘s 51st season does not yet have a premiere date.
