Almost every iconic performance Beyoncé has executed over the last few years has had one man to thank for its choreography, and his name is Chris Grant. Now, the talented dancer behind some of Beyoncé’s greatest performances, including her 2018 Homecoming Coachella set, is bringing his talents to WorldPride 2019.
At this year’s WorldPride in New York City, Grant will be executing a massive dance performance to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots that sparked the gay rights movement, along with paying tribute to some of history’s greatest pop icons.
In a statement to Billboard, Grant says that working with Beyoncé has taught him the importance of having a strong work ethic to pull off performances worthy of love from an audience. “[I want] to always make sure people feel and witness the magic we feel creatively while working with Beyoncé,” he says. “I’ve never felt more sure that this is so pivotal, especially in the LGBTQ community.”
The performance will be set to Grant’s single “Wristwatch,” and will focus heavily on the Stonewall riots. “This moment in time couldn’t be more important to honor and celebrate the people that fought so hard in 1969 during the Stonewall raid,” he says.
Grant’s performance will take place at the WE Party Pride Festival Main Event produced by Jake Resnicow at the Jacob Javitz Center on Saturday, June 29. Grant will be hosting an open call for dancers wishing to participate on May 10 and 11 at Pearl Studios in New York City.
