ALMA is on a new high. Following the release of her EP, Dye My Hair, back in 2016 — and subsequent singles like the platinum hit “Chasing Highs” and “Phases” featuring French Montana, plus one-off 2018 mixtape Heavy Rules — the Casablanca Records signee is slowly spinning a global takeover, netting over 350 million Spotify plays to date and tour stops at UK’s Glastonbury as well as appearances at Reading Festival and Leeds Festival this summer.
Her creative network is also growing —and today includes pals and frequent collaborators like Charli XCX (“Out Of My Head”), Tove Lo (“Bad As The Boys”), Felix Jaehn (“Bonfire”), Martin Solvieg (“Lonely Night”), Zara Larson and Dua Lipa (“IDGAF”) and — most recently — Miley Cyrus. She worked with the latter “Wrecking Ball” hitmaker on her most recent EP, She Is Coming, co-writing cuts like the female empowerment anthem “Mother’s Daughter” and “Cattitude” featuring RuPaul.
“Working with Miley was a dream,” ALMA shares. “The first time we met we just clicked it was super easy and real — it’s crazy how two people with such different backgrounds can have so many of the same thoughts and feelings.” Sure, the duo “like to party,” she admits, but they also “talk about the deep stuff,” and used the personal sessions to elevate the song concepts. “We put all our experiences good and bad into songs together. I can’t wait for people to hear all the tracks we’ve made!”
The rising star’s next act? Her proper forthcoming debut LP, Have You Seen Her?, set for release this September. The set — preceded by early single “Lonely Night,” produced and written by ALMA alongside HitImpulse (Kygo, Ellie Goulding, Steve Aoki) — was executive produced by top songwriter Justin Tranter (Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber), and will include further collaborations with Charli XCX, producer Bloodpop (Lady Gaga), and songwriter Andrew Wyatt (Lykke Li, Mark Ronson) among others.
To toast the forthcoming career milestone, the queer upstart put together a Summer of Pride mix as an ode to her go-to party and self-love anthems, and featuring cuts by MARINA, Brooke Candy, Lily Allen, Miley Cyrus and more.
The set includes a handful of her rebellious teenage anthems as well as her preferred bops du jour. “It’s a mix of party tracks, empowering songs and songs you can cry to,” she adds. “This is actually the playlist I listen to before I go out… so enjoy!”
The set includes a number of pop heavyweights that she looked up to during her youth as a model for what was possible. “I’ve always connected most with powerful female singers like Robyn or Lana Del Rey or Lady Gaga,” she adds, citing the latter’s premier queer hit “Born This Way” as fundamental. “It’s the biggest gay anthem forever!”
Give the playlist a spin and catch ALMA on her forthcoming headlining European tour in support of the new LP, with dates through the fall at Electric Ballroom in London (Oct. 2), La Maroquinerie in Paris, France (Oct. 8), Le Botanique in Brussels (Oct. 11), and more.
