Every RuPaul’s Drag Race fan loves a bit of tea-spilling and shade-throwing, so to celebrate a decade of the show, Billboard Pride editor Patrick Crowley sat down with season five contestant and All Stars 2 winner Alaska to find out what she has to say about some of her fellow queens, along with former judges and guest judges who have appeared on the RuPaul-hosted series.
Randomly choosing names from a teapot, Alaska kicks things off with Milk, or as she calls her, “Milkalina,” revealing that they were recently in Mexico together for a show, calling the queen “really funny and really cool.”
Moving on to Vanessa Hudgens, who served as a guest judge during All Stars 3, Alaska throws some shade at a certain cringe-worthy comment Hudgens made during her appearance, telling Billboard Pride, “I’m really into voguing right now…I’m really into drag right now. I just am, I’m just getting into it.”
Alaska also pulls the name Santino Rice out of the teapot, revealing that she and Willam recently reached out to the former Drag Race judge to invite him onto their podcast Race Chaser, but he declined.
“He’s in so a different place now from Drag Race,” she says. “We asked him if he wanted to be on, or just have a conversation about it, and he was like, ‘No, I just I don’t have anything to talk about.’ I think he owns a restaurant now. And it’s very raw and healthy, and he’s like, ‘Drag Race, what?’ He is not that into voguing right now.”
Alaska grabs several other names of fellow Drag Race contestants, including Jiggly Caliente, who she calls “a beacon of light” and Jinkx Monsoon, who Alaska says she wants to do an Absolutely Fabulous-inspired look with, since she is just like Patsy Stone and Jinkx is named after Edina Monsoon.
The drag queen also shares a fond memory of Penny Tration, revealing that she was the one who stapled Alaska into her Saran wrap dress on the first episode of season five. “I wouldn’t have been able to do it without her,” says Alaska, adding, “She’s really classy and a really good sport because if you’re the first person who goes home, you take the promo pictures the next day so if you’re eliminated, you have to show up and be lovely at a photo shoot with all your sisters. But she did it, she was amazing and she’s always been really great.”
