Back in February, Sally Fields’ son Sam Greisman said on Twitter that he had a crush on Olympian Adam Rippon, and began a campaign to meet and subsequently date the openly gay figure skater.
I hate being earnest but an openly, “non-passing”, sassy, beautiful gay 20-something daring America not to love him and becoming the sweetheart of the Olympic Games is very moving to me.

Gonna need a gif of @Adaripp saying he just wants to focus on being America’s Sweetheart for my daily use. Please and thank you.
Also marry me Adam.

While there were many fans of Greisman and Rippon who began tweeting their support of the two getting together, no one was as adamant a supporter as Fields herself. Greisman tweeted out a conversation he had with his mother who told him “find a way.”

In Rippon’s own words, Fields planted the seed and saw the harvest — Rippon and Greisman finally met and posed for a photo together at the Human Rights Campaign gala in Los Angeles on Saturday.

?Rippon attended the ceremony to be honored with the organization’s Visibility Award. The Olympic figure skater gave an inspiring speech to the captive audience, addressing LGBTQ youth across the country saying “Whether you are gay, straight, bi, trans or still on a journey of self-discovery; whether you are white, black, or any color in between, you are smarter than you think. You hold more strength than you may ever know. You are powerful.”
