When Adam Rippon was faced with tweets from his haters on Tuesday (Feb. 13), he decided to defend himself in the one surefire way that he knew how — channeling the energy of drag queens.
Rippon, who is the first openly gay athlete to compete for the United States in a Winter Olympics, took to Twitter on Tuesday morning and said that while naysayers told him the they were rooting for his failure, he knew that he’d learn from his previous mistakes and was now “a glamazon bitch ready for the runway.”
To all those who tweet at me saying that they “hope I fail”, I have failed many times many times in my life. But more importantly, I’ve learned from every setback, proudly own up to my mistakes, grown from disappointments, and now I’m a glamazon bitch ready for the runway.

For those who may not get the reference, Rippon was quoting drag queen and current RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars contestant Kennedy Davenport, who said the now-infamous line while defending an outfit she wore on the seventh season of Drag Race.
Davenport took the time to tweet back at Rippon, saying that “a greater door shall be open unto you.” Rippon tweeted back to show his appreciation.
