In the four years since pop-rock star Adam Lambert last released a solo album, the singer has been busy, from touring and performing as the new frontman of Queen to appearing in the upcoming Playmobil: The Movie. But now, Lambert is back and ready to offer up some new solo music.
On Wednesday (May 15), Lambert released his latest single “New Eyes,” a fusion of modern and ‘70s rock where the singer embraces his new sound, and his new perspective. As he croons through the song, which features a rock vibe reminiscent of Arctic Monkeys and Pink Floyd, he thanks his lover for granting him a different point of view. “Everything that you try/ Everything gets you high, baby/ I’d be so blind without your new eyes,” he sings.
Along with the new track, Lambert also released a video for the song, inspired by the aesthetic, music and film of the 1970s. The video portrays Lambert, decked out in some truly groovy outfits, as a benevolent party-goer, who lends a series of seemingly mystical objects to strangers to make their nights even more fun.
The song is the official lead single off of Lambert’s upcoming and highly-anticipated fourth studio album, Velvet. The video for “New Eyes,” which was directed by duo Miles & AJ, is the first part of a multi-part short film that will lead up to the release of the new album. In a statement released with the song, it was teased that part 2, and likely a new song to accompany it, would be coming soon.
For those who want to hear how the song sounds live, you won’t have to wait very long — Lambert will be performing “New Eyes” for the very first time during the season finale of American Idol on Sunday, May 19 at 8 p.m. EST.
