When the trailer for the upcoming Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody dropped last week, avid fans took to Twitter to shame the trailer for leaving out any mention of frontman Freddie Mercury’s alleged bisexuality. While the singer seems to have never directly confirmed his sexuality while he was alive, many have argued that he was gay or bisexual due to the relationships he had with both men and women.

Queen’s latest frontman, pop superstar Adam Lambert, told Attitude in a recent cover story interview that he’s not convinced the iconic singer was hiding his sexuality from the world. “I don’t know how ‘in the closet’ Freddie actually was,” he said.
The “What Do You Want From Me” singer said that while Mercury had a tendency to answer questions about his sexuality in a facetious way, he still occasionally answered the questions. “There were interviews where they were asking if he was gay and he said: ‘Yeah as a daffodil… gay as a daffodil,’” Lambert said. “And I don’t know if they thought he was being flippant, but he never really said, ‘No, I’m not.’”
Lambert added that thanks to the time period, people were uncomfortable discussing LGBTQ issues, but Mercury was still always himself. “I mean it was like another time where it was just taboo to even discuss it in the media,” he said. “I think it might have been interpreted as him being tongue-in-cheek, but he sort of owned it from the get-go.”
Lambert, who was the openly first gay man to have a No. 1 album on the Billboard 200, is currently on a summer tour with Queen throughout Europe, before the group comes to Las Vegas for a limited three-week residency at the Park Theater.
