*Spoilers ahead for episode three of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 11*
In a challenge on Thursday night’s (March 14) episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race, the queens were tasked with designing and filming televangelist-style talk shows worshipping different pop divas. Ra’Jah O’Hara’s team chose to faithfully stan the Elusive Chanteuse herself, Mariah Carey. The only problem? They didn’t seem to know very much at all about Ms. Mimi, resulting in the show’s first-ever six-way lip sync.
This was no doubt a difficult challenge — each team had only their collective knowledge of their favorite pop divas to rely on. But the fact that the queens chose to parody Carey without incorporating some of her most iconic shady moments was, to say the least, questionable. Here are 5 Mariah moments the queens could (and should) have referenced in their sketch.
“I Don’t Know Her”
Perhaps the greatest example of shade in the herstory of pop divas is when Carey responded to a question about Jennifer Lopez with a simple “I don’t know her,” which would have made for the easiest joke. When the queens had a “non-believer” appear on the show, instead of making her an Ariana Grande fan, have her stan JLo and ignore her existence.
Mariah vs. Nicki Minaj
Look, we could make this whole list about Mariah’s infamous feuds, but this was one of her best. Throughout their season on American Idol, Carey and Minaj butted heads, including in TMZ-leaked footage where the rapper went on a tirade against the Songbird Supreme. How funny would it have been if one of the queens quoted Carey’s incredible “I rebuke it” quote in reference to Minaj?
The New Year’s Eve Fiasco
When Honey Davenport and Ra’Jah O’Hara struggled through singing their hymn in honor of Mariah, there was a ripe opportunity to parody Mariah’s infamous New Years Eve performance that they plainly missed. All that either of the queens had to do was put a finger to their ear, complain not having any hot tea, and hold the microphone outwards to proclaim “I’m gonna let the audience sing.”
Shading her Backup Singer on Good Morning America
Telling her backups to “stop singing my part now, baby” while still singing on GMA was one of Carey’s most hilarious moments. This was yet another opportunity for one of the singing queens to make some comedy out of a tough situation, or even for one of the hosts to stop the other from interrupting.
The Swivel Chair
In what was easily the best moment of her Mariah’s World docu-series, a clip showed the diva being rolled around on a chair by her security detail backstage, as she smiled at the camera. If that’s how one of the queens entered their talk show challenge, it would have made for comedy gold.
