Imagine having one of your favorite artists call you on the phone and interview you about your life. Well, that’s exactly what happened for actor Timotheé Chalamet. Frank Ocean interviewed Chalamet, a known fan of Ocean’s work, for VMan magazine. The two talked about Chalamet’s performances in two of the most critically-acclaimed films of the year, Call Me By Your Name, for which he received an Oscar nomination, and Lady Bird.
“This is so exciting,” Chalamet said at the outset of the interview. “I’m such a huge fan. This is going to be a real test to keep my voice level and keep this as normal of a conversation as possible.”
Ocean, who previously expressed his admiration for CMBYN, had this to say about Chalamet’s performance as Elio: “It’s a really special role and an opportune, appropriate time right now in popular culture. I think it’s also good for you that this is your opening song. It’s such a proper foundation, to do roles like these that have so much heart and vulnerability in the very beginning, completely boutique or small, but on the lips of so many.”
Along with talking about Chalamet’s Oscar-nominated performance, Ocean asked about the best spots to get food in New York City, about Chalamet’s high school rap videos that were recently shown on Ellen, and about why superhero movies are sometimes necessary for an actor to take on.
