We The Kings are ready to rock the holidays with their new beachy rendition of “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting).” Billboard shares an exclusive look at their cover of the Christmas classic ahead of the release of the Florida-born band’s first ever holiday album, Season’s Greetings from the Sandbar.
While the festive new song opens traditionally, led by a piano riff, frontman Travis Clark’s smooth voice is soon joined by tropical instruments and a reggae beat.
“I’ve been wanting to do a Christmas album for a long time, mainly because I’ve never been able to witness a ‘winter wonderland’ as a result of living in Florida and California my whole life,” Clark told Billboard, “So instead of writing another Christmas album that sounded frosty, I decided to record it with more of a ‘island-sunshine’ vibe for everyone who experiences Christmas above 70°F.”
Season’s Greetings from the Sandbar features a collection of seven classics from “Silent Night” to “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” with originals “One People” and a re-recorded version of 2008’s “There Is A Light” sprinkled in. The band also reunited with Elena Coats, known for collaborating with the guys on “Sad Song” from 2013’s Somewhere Somehow, to record “Baby It’s Cold Outside.”
The holiday album drops Friday (Nov. 16) and is available for pre-order now. Listen to the new Christmas jam and check out the full track listing below.
