The 2018 Tony Award nominations came out on Tuesday morning (May 1) and Steve Martin, for one, could not be more excited for Amy Schumer’s notice in his play Meteor Shower. “Congrats to Amy Schumer for her Tony nom,” Martin tweeted about the first-time honor for the I Feel Pretty star.
Congrats to Amy Schumer for her Tony nom for Meteor Shower!

A man who knows a thing or two about Tony nominations (and wins), gave a shout-out to all the nominees who learned to love the theater back before anyone was really watching. “Congratulations to all the Tony Nominees, and all the Non-Nominees, and everyone who fell in love with working on the school play AND THEN ACTUALLY GETS TO KEEP DOING IT IN REAL LIFE,” wrote Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also tipped his hat to the nominees from two New York high schools.
Congratulations to all the Tony Nominees, and all the Non-nominees, and everyone who fell in love with working on the school play AND THEN ACTUALLY GETS TO KEEP DOING IT IN REAL LIFE. How f*ckin lucky and talented you are, all of you.

The 72nd annual Tony Award nominations were announced on Tuesday morning by Katharine McPhee (Waitress) and Leslie Odom Jr. (Hamilton). Among the leading contenders for this year’s awards are the Tina Fey-penned Mean Girls musical and SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical, with 12 nominations each, including Best Musical and The Band’s Visit, with 11 nods and Frozen with 3.
In the drama category the Broadway revival of Tony Kushner’s Angels in America earned 11 nominations, as did the Carousel revival, while the highly anticipated Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts One and Two and My Fair Lady each earned 10. Broadway veteran John Leguizamo will receive a Special Tony for his irreverent run through 3,000 years of Latin history in Latin History for Morons.
After years of working the boards in a series of plays and one-man shows Leguizamo was overjoyed about his honor.

Slater was super psyched as well, and totally willing to spread the love.
A lot going through my head right now. But first, two things: 1) @TinaLandau leads with artistry and her collaborators (us) follow. 2) thank you to EVERYONE who made theater this season. Honored to be a part of this community. https://t.co/l7weGrEiRa

Even not being nominated was reason to celebrate for Frozen’s Princess Anna, Patti Murin, who invited invited Captain America star (and Broadway’s Lobby Hero actor) Chris Evans to join her pity party.
Hey @ChrisEvans, wanna have a non-Tony nominee party with me? No? Okay, cool. Maybe just a high five then.

TV’s Young Sheldon, Iain Armitage, got in on the action too, offering a big shout-out to all the nominees.
