Portraying pop legend Cher is a task that would be daunting for most actresses today. Lucky for us, three Broadway stars have signed on to take on the difficult role for the upcoming Broadway musical The Cher Show.
Stephanie J. Block (Falsettos, The Mystery of Edwin Drood) announced last month that she would be one of three actresses playing the titular role during The Cher Show’s pre-Broadway engagement in Chicago. Joining her, according to a statement from the show’s representatives, are Teal Wicks (Finding Neverland) and Broadway newcomer Micaela Diamond.
The actresses will be playing the Grammy, Emmy and Oscar winning superstar at three different stages in her life and career. The show will also feature Jarrod Spector (Beautiful) as Sonny Bono, Michael Berresse (Kiss Me, Kate) as designer Bob Mackie, Michael Campayno (Wicked) as Rob Camilletti, Matthew Hydzik (It Shoulda Been You) as Gregg Allman, and Emily Skinner (Side Show) as Georgia Holt.
The full cast of the show will include Marija Abney, Carleigh Bettiol, Taurean Everett, Michael Fatica, Ashley Blair Fitzgerald, Michael Graceffa, Blaine Alden Krauss, Sam Lips, Allie Meixner, Tiana Okoye, Amy Quanbeck, Angel Reda, Dee Roscioli, Michael Tacconi, Tory Trowbridge, Christopher Vo, Alena Watters, Charlie Williams, and Ryan Worsing.
The musical, directed by Tony Award-winner Jason Moore, will follow the story of Cher’s early life and career as a singer, actress, model and global trendsetter, all to the tune of her now-iconic catalog of songs.
The Cher Show will being its pre-Broadway run at Chicago’s Oriental Theater on June 12, followed by previews at New York’s Neil Simon Theater on November 1 and its Broadway debut on December 3.
