America’s Got Talent‘s latest 12-year-old sensation, Luke Islam, continued his road to Broadway with a breathtaking performance of “You Will Be Found” from Dear Evan Hansen Tuesday night (Aug. 13).
One month after receiving Julianne Hough’s golden buzzer during his audition — when he gave a moving performance of another Broadway hit, “She Used To Be Mine” from Waitress — Islam left the judges wowed once again. As he stood on a tilted glowing platform on stage, Islam confidently belted out the Dear Evan Hansen song in inspirational fashion, nailing every note and even adding his own impressive runs.
Hough couldn’t help but gush over her golden buzzer pick following the performance. “You did not disappoint with that golden buzzer, because what you just did right now just proved what an incredible voice, what an incredible performer you are,” she told Islam. “I am so proud that you were my golden buzzer.”
Simon Cowell couldn’t believe the confidence and poise Islam has already displayed in just two performances. “That shouldn’t come from you at 12 years old,” Cowell said. “You know who you are and where you want to go, and that to me is so important. You’ve done yourself really proud.”
Islam said in his audition that his dream is to make it to Broadway, and after his latest stunner with “You Will Be Found,” Howie Mandel was equally as confident that the pre-teen is well on his way. “I think we just watched your dream come true,” Mandel said. “I predict you’re going to be on a Broadway stage, you’re going to be starring. You’re huge.”
