John Legend and Kelly Clarkson are breathing new life into the controversial Christmas classic “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” after Legend teamed up with Natasha Rothwell from HBO’s Insecure to update the lyrics for a more sensitive (and less suspect) narrative.
The EGOT winner’s A Legendary Christmas: The Deluxe Edition is out today (Nov. 8) via Columbia Records. An update to his holiday album first released in October 2018, the 18-track LP delivers four original recordings of holiday classics, including the 2019 redo of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.”
The perceptive musical conversation between the two The Voice coaches includes these lyrics: “I really can’t stay (Baby it’s cold outside)/ I’ve gotta go away (I can call you a ride)/ This evening has been (So glad that you dropped in)/ So very nice (Time spent with you is paradise)/ My mother will start to worry (I’ll call a car and tell ‘em to hurry).”
The album also includes “This Christmas,” “My Favorite Things” and “Christmas in New Orleans.”
