Disney’s Frozen: The Broadway Musical will release its Original Cast Recording on Friday, May 11, but you can get an early listen of the Anna/Hans duet “Love Is an Open Door” exclusively via Billboard today (May 10).
The Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert (Bobby) Lopez-penned track features Broadway’s Patti Murin (Anna) and John Riddle (Hans). It’s one of the songs that appeared in the original 2013 film, and you can look out for it during Act One of the show.
As for what it was like to see Murin and Riddle bring the song to life on the stage? “This may sound strange for Frozen, but really what Patti and John bring to the song is sex!” Bobby tells Billboard. “It’s a naive, fun and hilarious sexuality that truly grows the song up, yet keeping the spirit of fresh, slightly cheesy romanticism that the original always had.”
“Not only that, they dance the heck out of it,” Kristen adds. “There’s a new awesome dance break scored by Stephen Oremus and subversively, hilariously choreographed by Rob Ashford.”
Frozen is also up for three Tony nominations: Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre. “It’s Kristen’s first nomination ever — many people haven’t clocked that and just assume she’s done it before,” Bobby says. “But she grew up watching the Tonys and dreaming of being part of the Broadway community, and the day the nominations came out, it felt like the dream she had been working toward her entire life came true.” Adds Kristen: “Yeah — that pretty much sums it up!”
