Coachella diehards might have noticed some unexpected names on the official festival schedule when the 2014 set times were released on Tuesday night (Apr. 8). Pixies and Julian Casablancas have both been added to this year’s lineup, with the Strokes frontman rocking the Mojave tent at 5:05 PM on Saturday and Pixies taking the same stage at 8:50 PM that evening.
Neither artist appeared on the official Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival bill when it was released in January. The Indio, Calif. festival has made late additions to its lineup in the past, most notably when Prince joined the 2008 lineup as a headliner after the initial wave of acts was announced.
Pixies’ upcoming appearance at Coachella comes 10 years after the group reunited at Coachella in 2004. On Apr. 23, the indie rock legends will release “Indie Cindy,” their first new full-length since 1991’s “Trompe Le Monde.”
Julian Casablancas performed as a solo artist at Coachella in 2010 and with the Strokes in 2011. He will perform solo and with the Strokes at the upcoming Governors Ball fest in June.
Coachella once again takes place over consecutive weekends this year, from Apr. 11-13 and Apr. 18-20. Outkast, Muse and Arcade Fire will be headlining both weekends.
