Singer-songwriter Jenny Lewis paid a visit to Governors Ball on Friday to perform new songs from her third solo album, “The Voyager, due July 29 through Warner Bros. Records.
The former Rilo Kiley frontwoman sat down with Billboard at the New York festival to discuss “The Voyager,” her first album in six years following 2008’s “Acid Tongue.” The set features production from Ryan Adams, Beck and her longtime collaborator Johnathan Rice.
“I really wanted outside help on the producer front, so I reached out to a couple of artists I love, who also produce their own music,” says Lewis, noting that she’s collaborated in the past with artists like the Watson Twins and Elvis Costello. “I needed help getting through this one.”
Lewis spent last year touring alongside the Postal Service and says she’s looking forward to touring in support of “The Voyager” with a new band. In addition to numerous summer festival dates, she’ll also be performing on the same bill as Ray LaMontagne throughout July.
“I put together an amazing new band that’s completely equal — three women and three men,” Lewis says. “We’re gonna go out and play some shows. That’s really all I can do, get everything sounding great on the road.
