The event — which will take place Dec. 2 in the South African city for the first time since its inception — already features JAY-Z, Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, Chris Martin, Tiwa Savage and more on its roster of international talent.
“I’m so thrilled to be heading to South Africa to be part of Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100,” Musgraves said in a statement. “I’m humbled to be able to work with such an incredible organization and help bring attention to the tireless work they do to end extreme poverty.”
In addition to musical performances, Oprah Winfrey will deliver Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100’s keynote address, and Naomi Campbell, Sir Bob Geldof, Gayle King, Tyler Perry and Forest Whitaker will serve as its hosts.
To celebrate the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela, whose work directly inspires Global Citizen in its mission to eradicate poverty and eliminate it completely by 2030, the organization brought its multi-faceted program to the city Mandela called home and right before the anniversary of his passing. (Mandela died on Dec. 5, 2013 at the age of 95.)
Those interested in attending Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 at Johannesburg’s FNB stadium on Dec. 2 can obtain tickets through the completion of various social actions. For more information, visit globalcitizen.org.
