Global Citizen has announced a slew of guest appearances for its annual Global Citizen Festival on Sept. 23, including the return of Hugh Jackman and actor/producer Deborra-lee Furness as lead hosts. Co-hosts throughout the evening include Demi Lovato, Aaron Paul, Priyanka Chopra, Kal Penn, Lupita Nyong’o, Nashville‘s Connie Britton and many more.
Chopra, a Global Citizen ambassador who also served as a host last year, stressed the importance of the all-day charity event: “Year after year, an amazing collection of Pop Culture icons come together to use their voice and platforms to not just support the cause but to influence thought and change in a way that resonates around the world… not just with words, but with action. I’m excited to return as host once again and join such a stellar list of fellow artists eager to participate, contribute and illustrate what we can accomplish with a strong focus and uncompromising determination. From Central Park to Mumbai – we saw millions of actions taken last year to compel our world leaders to act…. And act they did! As this movement continues to grow, I am confident that this year will see renewed commitments from policy-makers across continents to end extreme poverty.”
Dianna Agron, Freida Pinto, Wendy Williams, Mark Cuban, Bridget Moynahan, Daymond John, Camren Bicondova, Elaine Welteroth, Erin Richards, Joan Smalls, Malin Akerman, Rachel Brosnahan, Michelle Monaghan and Serge Ibaka will also serve as hosts for this year’s festival, taking place in New York City’s Central Park.
The social advocacy group hosts the free festival each year to raise awareness of its goal to end extreme poverty by 2030. Fans can earn their tickets by taking part in Action Journeys, a series of challenges designed to promote social activism. This year’s headliners include Stevie Wonder, Green Day, The Killers and The Lumineers, with featured performances by The Chainsmokers, Pharrell Williams, Big Sean, Andra Day and Alessia Cara. The one-day festival will also be broadcast live from Central Park on YouTube, Twitter and MSNBC.
