In an effort to help fight extreme poverty and inequality around the world, the Matther Santoro and AsapScience-hosted event aims to raise awareness with the fourth annual free festival.
The Global Citizen Festival was launched in 2012 as part of a 15-year campaign to end extreme poverty by 2030. Tickets to the event — 48,000 in total — will be given at no cost to those who take action by visiting GlobalCitizen.org and participating in a broad range of campaign efforts to help the poor, including raising awareness through social media, signing petitions and contacting world leaders to push for change.
Stephen Colbert, Salma Hayek, Kerry Washington, Olivia Wilde, Hugh Jackman and wife Deborra-Lee are also set to host at the fest.
The festival will simulcast live from Central Park by media partner MSNBC from 4-10 p.m. both on the television network and on MSNBC.com
