For their new album Paper Gods, British pop veterans Duran Duran weren’t content to rest on the laurels of the fame they first gained in the 1980s. “There’s an emotional commitment to being experimental and trying things out that we really never tried before,” frontman Simon Le Bon told Billboard backstage on Friday at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas about the record.
That experimentation included a spoken-word guest spot from Lindsay Lohan on the song “Danceophobia.” “She had sent a little text through saying, ‘Hey, can I come and do something on your album?’” keyboardist Nick Rhodes explained. “And we were like, actually, there’s one perfect place for her to do the most beautiful cameo. I have to say, she was utterly brilliant.”
The group was introduced at iHeartRadio Music Festival by fellow Brit, The Late Late Show host James Corden. He led a conga line with audience members during Duran’s set, which included “Hungry Like the Wolf” and “Notorious.” The latter track was dedicated to Chic‘s Nile Rodgers — the song’s producer — for his birthday. Duran Duran are on the road with Chic and Clean Bandit for a number of U.S. dates to support Paper Gods.
