Daft Punk may not be on the official Coachella lineup this year, still the French electronic duo still managed to grab the attention of concert-goers talking in the festival’s first day (April 12).
Daft Punk broadcasted a new trailer for their forthcoming album, “Random Access Memories,” on the main stage jumbotrons right before the Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeahs took the stage for their 8:40pm set. The two-minute video features footage of the duo playing guitar and drums alongside vocalist Pharrell Williams and famed Chic co-founder Nile Rodgers on a funky, disco-tinged song ‘Get Lucky.’ The video caused more excitement that many of the bands playing live across the festival’s six-stages, re-igniting rumours and raising hopes that the French duo might just make an in-the-flesh appearance on-stage before Coachella closes its gates on Sunday.
The video also confirms a list of notable guests to appear on “Random Access Memories” beyond Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers. The 13-track album, due out May 21 on the group’s Daft Life imprint through Columbia Records, will also feature Animal Collective’s Panda Bear, Strokes’ frontman Julian Casablancas and disco innovator Giorgio Moroder, along with house-music producer Todd Edwards, DJ Falcon, Canadian singer/producer Chilly Gonzales and celebrated ’70s songwriter Paul Williams. The album is already available for preorder at iTunes.
“Random Access Memories” was recorded in Paris, L.A. and New York and is slated to include a second Pharrell-sung track called “Lose Yourself to Dance,” according to Rollingstone.com, which also reported Daft Punk recently recorded in Paris with Kanye West for his new album.
The Coachella video tease for Daft Punk’s “Random Access Memories” follows previous video teases for the album in the form of short ads that aired during ‘Saturday Night Live’ in March. The French duo is reportedly set to preview the album in concert at the Annual Wee Waa Show, a small Australian agricultural fest, on May 17.
