There’s a light at the end of the tunnel for Angel Haze’s debut album, “Dirty Gold,” with the Detroit-bred MC revealing at Lollapalooza that she wrapped the set a month ago with plans to release a single this month.
Haze, who has spent time in the studio with Marcus Dravs (Coldplay, Mumford & Sons) and Greg Kurstin (Pink, Kelly Clarkson), tells Billboard of another guest that’ll be found on the long-awaited full length: Sia.
“I had no clear she even knew who I was,” she says of the Australian singer. “And out of nowhere I’m doing a Greg Kurstin section and he’s like ‘Cia really wants me to play you something, but if you don’t want to hear it we’d totally understand.'”
Her response: “No way!”
“We play it and the song ends up being so epic,” she notes. “So she’s one of my all time favorite artists ever, and that was amazing for me. Legitimately.”
Haze says she’ll be spending the rest of the year in promotion mode for “Dirty Gold,” which still lacks a release date. Since dropping free LP “Reservation” in July 2012, Haze has upped her profile and signed with Universal Republic.
“I’ve got three single coming out,” she says. “The first of them, maybe sometime this month, called ‘Echelon.’ And I just hope it’s really wicked.”
