Talpa, the production company run by The Voice creator John de Mol, has set up a group of joint ventures that will see the company produce on location across several major European territories.
The new companies include Talpa UK, a joint venture with Shed Media; Talpa Italia, a cooperation with Toro TV and Talpa Nordic, which will see the company work together with Nordisk FilmTV and Banijay Finland. Talpa UK will be based in London, Talpa Italia in Rome and Talpa Nordic in Copenhagen.
The deals will see the three new operations become the exclusive local producers of Talpa formats - including hit The Voice. The move will give Talpa and De Mol more control over how it rolls out new formats in Europe. In the U.S., Talpaalready produces The Voice under its own banner – TalpaMedia USA.
The new joint ventures will all coordinate operations with Maarten Meijs, managing director of Dutch-based Talpa International.
“In producing our formats, we’re used to working as co-producers together with local parties all over the world,” said Pim Schmitz, CEO of Talpa Holding. “What we’re now doing in the U.K., Italy and the Northern European countries goes a step further. Talpa will now produce under its own brand, and for us that’s an important milestone in terms of the company’s international growth.”
In addition to the Emmy-winning The Voice, Talpa's catalog of formats includes The Voice Kids, I Love My Country, The Winner Is…, Dating in the Dark and newly-launched reality show Utopia.
