Founder Bruce Houghton will continue as advisor and senior editor

Concert discovery tool Bandsintown has acquired Hypebot.com and MusicThinkTank.com, artists-centric and technology media companies founded in 2004 by booking agent and publisher Bruce Houghton.

The acquisition expands Bandsintown’s resources to its more than 500,000 registered artists as it seeks to identify rising stars and find new ways to connect fans with bands.

Hypebot publishes daily content with online editions that share an artist-centric point of view, focused on the intersection of music and technology and how content is monetized. MusicThinkTank is an open forum for musicians and music business professionals that serves as the official town hall "where the music industry goes to think."

Hoping to help shape the careers of independent artists recording without the help of major record labels, Hypebot will work with Bandsintown to develpp custom content, breaking industry news, exclusive interviews, guest columns, newsletters, tutorials and more.

Hypebot and MusicThinkTank will continue to be run by Houghton, who will also step into an adviser role for Bandsintown with a specific focus on artist partnerships. Hypebot with maintain its editorial indepence, publishing free daily content and Houghton will continue his role serving as president of Skyline Artists Agency which books over 2,000 live dates annually with clients that include Zoe Keating, Poco, Roger McGuinn, Darlingside, Freddie McGregor and The Motels.

"Hypebot was created as a guide to understanding the new music industry -- not just labels and tech companies; but more importantly, the artists and music that give it life," Houghton explains. "Working with a successful artist-centric team like Bandsintown will give Hypebot the resources to expand on our mutual mission of empowering artists. I look forward to contributing to Bandsintown's ongoing effort to help more artists and managers build a successful and sustainable career in music, with live music at its center."

Bandsintown managing partner Fabrice Sergent said, "indie and emerging artists are a transformative and a vibrant component of the music industry" adding, "We share the same passion for independent and DIY artists. By welcoming Bruce and Hypebot into the Bandsintown family, we enhance the breadth of our support to the artists and further contribute to artists’ career growth and success."
