Billy Joel is notching milestone dates and breaking records in what his longtime agent Dennis Arfa calls Joel’s “summer of nuggets.” Through June 6, Joel has grossed $22.5 million from just 12 shows, not counting a headlining gig at Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tenn.

Consider this Joel summer route: June 14, Bonnaroo; June 20, ties Elton John’s record for most shows at the Garden at 64; July 4, breaks John’s record with the 19th show as a Garden “franchise”; July 17, a second consecutive year at Boston’s Fenway Park; July 25, 41,000 tickets sold at Baltimore’s Ravens Field, a first NFL Stadium play for Joel; Aug. 4, closes Nassau Veterans Coliseum in Uniondale, N.Y.; Aug. 13, a second year at Citizen’s Bank Park in Philadelphia; Aug. 27, a second consecutive sellout at Wrigley Field in Chicago; Aug. 28, the 20th Garden play under the franchise tag; Sept. 6, closes out the summer with a sellout at AT&T Park in San Francisco. And he also got married.

"Billy doesn't work that much this summer," says Arfa, "but everything we are doing is huge. What he does is all nuggets. He's touring a whole different way, 30-something dates over the course of the year, and we pick our spots."
