The upcoming 2014 Billboard Touring Awards will feature performances by R&B/funk legends Kool and the Gang and English pop band Rixton, it was announced Wednesday. The ceremony, taking place Nov. 20 at the Edison Ballroom in New York City, honors the concert industry's top artists, professionals and venues. It was also announced that concert promoter Ron Delsener will be the recipient of the first-ever Golden Circle Award, and Bob Benjamin of the Light of Day Foundation is this year's Humanitarian Award winner.
"From living legends to new acts on the scene, we hope to spawn a new generation of out of the box thinkers that continue to push the industry forward at the Billboard Touring Conference and Awards," says Ray Waddell, Billboard’s executive director of content and programming for touring and live entertainment. "It is a great honor to recognize the extraordinary contributions of the likes of Ron Delsener, Bob Benjamin and Lionel Richie, as they exemplify the spirit of excellence that our conference and event represents."
The newly minted Golden Circle Award is named for the industry lexicon for the "best seats in the house." The Humanitarian Award honors individuals whose vision and leadership have helped address the world’s greatest challenges and make a difference through live entertainment.
Finalists for this year's Touring Awards were announced Oct. 30 and include One Direction, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Rolling Stones,Arcade Fire, Jason Aldean and Paul McCartney.
The annual Billboard Touring Conference & Awards, in its 11th year, takes place at The Roosevelt Hotel, Nov. 19 and 20. More about the 2014 Billboard Touring Conference & Awards will be announced closer to event date.
