Ticketfly announced Thursday it has expanded into Canada by signing two of the country's top promoters, acquiring Prime Box Office ticketing company and securing some promoters and venues.
The San Francisco-based ticketing company signed on Calgary-based Union Events, Canada's largest independently owned concert promotion company. Union promotes shows rock and EDM shows across the country. Ticketfly also secured Toronto-based Collective Concerts, the exclusive promoter for the Horseshoe Tavern and Lee's Palace in Toronto.
Other new clients include University of Calgary, Inertia Entertainment, the Wavelength in Toronto and, via the Prime Box Office acquisition, the Starlite Room in Toronto.
Bruce Morrison, the former director of operations for Ticketmaster Canada, will be the general manager for Ticketfly Canada at the Toronto office. The president Prime Box Office, Greg Stephenson, will join Ticketfly as sales director for Alberta and will be based in Calgary.
More new clients are on the way from promoters in a variety of genres as well as "a pretty big independent promoter," CEO Andrew Dreskin tells Billboard.biz. "This is really just the beginning of what we think will be a very important market for us."
