After participating in a panel titled "How Exactly Will Social Sell Tickets?," Songkick CEO Ian Hogarth stuck around the Billboard Touring Conference " to give some more of his thoughts on the changes facing the concert industry.
In the video below, Hogarth compares the influence of the internet to the introduction of amplication in terms of the reach it gave to live concerts, with the internet multiplying the number of potential viewers in much the same way that amplification took live shows from a small circle of listeners into the festival field of thousands. He also discusses the role of new ticketing startups targeted toward artists, venues and promoters and Songkick's attempts to make that fragmentation easier for fans to understand, and the increase of automatic sharing across social networks. "The trend is toward sharing," he said. "That's like, Zuckerberg's Law, right?"
