Britain's Entertainment Retailers Association has temporarily split its chairmanship role.

Paul Quirk, founder of Quirk's Records, and Woolworths' head of trading, entertainment and mobile communications Jim Batchelor, were appointed at ERA's council meeting yesterday to serve as co-chairman of the retail trade body until its annual general meeting, Sept. 18.

"We changed the structure for the next six months to have a co-chair situation really to strengthen ERA going forward in the new retail market," ERA director general Kim Bayley tells

In January, Quirk stepped up from deputy ERA chairman to interim chairman, filling the void left by the departing chairman and HMV U.K. and Ireland managing director Steve Knott.
