Market leading U.K. entertainment retailer HMV and sister company Fopp have chosen children's cancer charity CLIC Sargent as their charity partner for 2008 to 2010.

As part of HMV’s bi-annual corporate social responsibility and community engagement review, CLIC Sargent will receive funds raised from a range of activities and events held by some of the 250 HMV and Fopp stores around the United Kingdom.

HMV Scotland has already raised £7,000 ($10,700), and HMV stores in Basildon and Victoria Station have donated the winnings of a recent Guitar Hero games tournament to the Paediatric Oncology Ward at University College London Hospital (UCLH).

In March 2009, store employees can take part in the first HMV & Fopp Inter-Regional 5-Aside Football tournament. In October, the inaugural HMV Annual Golf Day raised over £20,000 ($30,650) and involved 26 teams from HMV and its suppliers.

As previously reported, the chains have launched a 100% recycled 'Bag for Life’ and a portion of each sale is donated to CLIC Sargent. A joint presence by HMV and CLIC Sargent at Glastonbury festival is also being considered.

"I am delighted that HMV and Fopp are working so enthusiastically with CLIC Sargent -- not only to help raise much needed funding, but also to increase awareness of the wonderful and vital support this organisation gives to children and young people with cancer," said HMV Group CEO Simon Fox in a statement.

HMV will maintain its relationship with Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy through sponsorship of the charity's Silver Clef Luncheon and Football Extravaganza events
