British shoppers -- and suppliers -- will get their first taste of the Best Buy experience this May.

The U.S. retail giant has confirmed that its first U.K. store will open in May, in Thurrock, Essex. The actual opening date has yet to be revealed.

Two additional U.K. stores in Hedge End, Southampton and Merry Hill, West Midlands will open their doors to British shoppers in June, followed several weeks later by one in Aintree, near Liverpool, according to a spokesperson for the electronics/entertainment retailer.

Best Buy has also confirmed that it will be opening a store in Croydon, Surrey in Autumn 2010 with the promise of further U.K. store locations and opening dates to be announced later in the year.

In line with U.S. stores, Best Buy's British outlets will stock a wide range of entertainment releases, including music, DVD and video games, alongside its primary product of consumer electronics.

Commenting on the store's keenly awaited U.K. bow, Paul Antoniadis, CEO of Best Buy branded operations, said in a statement: "We're here to make buying technology simple, exciting and tailored to each of our customers. We look forward to bringing the Best Buy experience to consumers across the U.K."

Best Buy claims it will create up to 8,000 jobs in the United Kingdom over the next five years.
