Warner/Chappell Music (WCM) took home the publisher of the year award and Gucci Mane and Quavo were named the rhythm & soul songwriters of the year on Thursday night (June 21) at the annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards. This has been a banner year for WCM, which recently took home the publisher of the year award at the ASCAP Latin Music Awards.

“The caliber of hip-hop & R&B music that Warner/Chappell songwriters are creating is taking the culture to new places,” said Warner/Chappell chairman and CEO Jon Platt. “It’s great to see such a diverse array of talent recognized with this top honor. I’m especially excited for Gucci Mane, who is such a hard-working, and prolific songwriter. He is so deserving of this distinction.”

Although Gucci Mane was not present at the event, he tweeted a message of appreciation to his fans that said he was "very honored and grateful."

Gucci Mane has a prolific chart history, with his feature on Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles” peaking at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and his albums Mr. Davis and Everybody Looking each peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.

Other ASCAP award-winning WCM songwriters include Kendrick Lamar and  Beyoncé, who both had tracks included in the top 25 most performed songs of the year list.
