Update, 10:33AM ET, Aug. 25: Arts & Crafts has announced that Kieran Roy, general manager, co-founder and vp of the label, will assume the role of president following Remedios' move to Universal. "I will miss working alongside Jeffrey and wish him the best in the future," said Roy in a statement. Heidi Krohnert will assume Roy's current role at the label, while Matt Brown has been named vp of Finance & Operations.

Jeffrey Remedios, co-founder of Canadian indie Arts & Crafts, has been named president and chief executive officer of Universal Music Canada, effective Sept. 21. He succeeds Randy Lennox, who has accepted the role of president of entertainment production and broadcasting at Bell Media, Canada’s largest television, radio and digital media company.

“I want to thank Randy for transforming our Canadian company into the market leader both commercially and creatively,” Universal Music Group chairman and CEO Lucian Grainge said in a statement.  “He will be missed at UMG, and I’m confident he will achieve great things in his new role. I congratulate Jeffrey on his appointment. We are fortunate to have found an executive with his creative instincts and proven entrepreneurial track record to lead Universal Music Canada.”

Lennox, who was appointed president at Universal Music Canada after the Polygram merger in 1998 and then given the additional role of CEO in 2001, said, “It has been a pleasure working with Lucian and his executive team in building Universal Music Canada into the home for Canadian artists who have made an impact around the world. Jeffrey is a talented executive who represents continued great leadership at Universal Music Canada. This company has been my home for many years and I leave with the confidence that it’s in excellent hands, with a senior executive team who will lead the business into a bright future.”

Remedios co-founded the independent label Arts & Crafts in 2003 after the release of Broken Social Scene’s You Forgot It In People, which he has built into a global operation with offices in Toronto, Los Angeles and Mexico City.  A graduate of Hamilton, Ontario’s McMaster University in 1998 with an Honours Commerce Degree and minor in Music, began his career at Virgin Music Canada before moving to EMI Music Canada in media & artist relations and digital marketing, before becoming director of national promotion. Remedios then launched A&C, which also offers artist management, merchandising and publishing services. Additionally, he also founded the live music and arts festival Field Trip in Toronto.

“I want to thank Lucian for this incredible opportunity,” Remedios said. “Randy will be a tough act to follow, having created one of the best companies in the music industry.  I’m looking forward to working with Universal Music Canada’s extraordinary roster of artists and executives to continue their stellar record of artistic and commercial excellence.”

Remedios serves as chairman of the Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings (FACTOR), and belongs to the boards of Canadian Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (CARAS), and the City of Toronto Music Advisory Counsel (TMAC).

Dear Friend,

If you're reading this then you have made a major impact on my life and career as an Artist, Friend, Mentor ‎or Partner.

Universal Music was my first job and I have spent my entire adult life growing with this company that is indelibly stamped in my DNA.  I can hardly believe I'm writing to say I am leaving this company that I love so much.

To the Artists that I work with, our great partners , and the incredible team that we've built both past and present, thank you for your collective passion for music and the process of artist development, as it is the most rewarding and satisfying accomplishment any of us can make next to our family.

I am blessed to have experienced some of the highest highs in music, whether it is watching an artist for the very first time, or hearing a new song that moved me deeply, and there were many....

I am happy to say that I will still be deeply involved with each of you in Music, Television, Radio and Digital / Mobile Media as I move to my new role on Tuesday with Canada’s largest Media/Communications Company, Bell Media.

Bell Media is also inspiring as they are very committed to Music as part of a fully integrated Entertainment mandate going forward.

I would like to thank Lucian, Boyd and Max as we have spent the summer focused on our transition plan for Universal Music Canada.  You will remain in excellent hands with our Senior Management team, and the new President, Jeffrey Remedios (from Arts & Crafts), starts September 21st.  I am very thrilled about Jeffrey and I’m excited for you to meet him.

So to the Artists, Friends and Colleagues that I work with every day, I look forward to continuing with you in my new role and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for enriching my life.

‎Randy Lennox
