Downtown Music Publishing has announced a worldwide pact with Abood Music, the publishing arm of Jamdown Entertainment. The agreement brings Abood’s 7,000-song catalog of reggae and dancehall hits, by Jamaican artists including Cordell "Scatta" Burrell, RDX and Bounty Hunter, to a larger audience.
Jamdown was founded by former Black Uhuru manager Othman Mukhlis, who called the pairing "a good match."
Downtown UK’s managing director Roberto Neri added that "Othman has built up an impressive reputation and catalogue [and] we feel privileged to be the first publisher to represent Abood globally and for Downtown to be his new home."
Downtown, which is based in New York City, represents the works of songwriters including Randy Newman, Ray Davies and John Lennon & Yoko Ono. In May, Downtown purchased London-based music publisher Eagle-i Music, which represents the catalogs of Jeff Healey, Deep Purple and the Brian Jonestown Massacre.
