Julie Greenwald, Atlantic Records Chairman, COO, Tops Billboard’s 2013 Women In Music List

Billboard announced today that for a fourth consecutive year, Julie Greenwald, Chairman and COO of Atlantic Records Group, has topped its Women in Music list. Kathy Willard, Executive Vice President and CFO of Live Nation Entertainment, and Jody Gerson, Co-President of Sony/ATV Music Publishing, claimed the second and third spots respectively. (full-list below).

P!nk will be named the Billboard Woman of the Year, and Janelle Monáe will be honored as the Billboard Rising Star. The ranked Women in Music list of the top female music industry executives and the interviews with the artist honorees are revealed in the Billboard Women in Music issue, which hits newsstands on Saturday.  Co-hosting this year’s event will be American broadcast journalist/executive producer and CEO of Starfish Media Group, Soledad O’Brien, alongside Billboard Editorial Director, Bill Werde.

For the next three business days (Friday, Dec. 6 through Tuesday, Dec. 10) Billboard.biz will each day reveal the full write-ups of a group of honorees on its Billboard 2013 Women in Music Hub. On Tuesday Biz will present the final top ten honorees and all the winners' desert island discs.

The coveted Billboard Woman of the Year Award is given to an exemplary female recording artist who has inspired the music business with her success, leadership and new ideas. The award also acknowledges the achievements of the artist over the past 12 months. The Billboard Rising Star Award recognizes success and great potential among artists in the early stages of their career.

Billboard’s Women in Music list recognizes female executives who drive the music business forward with their vision, dedication and hard work. Billboard invited readers worldwide to submit nominations on Billboard.biz, and female executives in every industry sector were eligible. A team of Billboard’s editors then reviewed the submissions, and the top 40 nominees were chosen and ranked based on their achievements during the past 12 months. The list reads like a roster of the top female movers and shakers in the music business. The range of their achievements – at labels or publishing companies, in touring, on TV and elsewhere – reflects the overall impact of all the women in the industry.
