Steve Aoki, one of electronic music's biggest stars, announced Wednesday (July 30) that he'll host a weekly interactive radio show on SiriusXM's BPM channel called Steve Aoki's Remix Rewind. Unlike his current show, Aoki's House, which plays on Electric Area, the new program will call on listeners to vote for their favorite remixes. The winning bunch will then be presented as a countdown.
"I love exposing people to new music as well as giving fans a voice," Aoki said in a press release, "so this interactive voting countdown seemed like the perfect fit."
SiriusXM is one of the largest subscription media companies in the world. Scott Greenstein, who serves as president and chief content officer, said the new partnership is "another example" of the company's commitment to dance music, calling it "one of music's most vibrant genres."
Aoki, whose 2012 Wonderland album earned him a Grammy nomination, has seen meteoric success in recent years. By day, he runs his own label, Dim Mak, in Los Angeles, which boasts some of electronic music's most promising new artists. such as Clockwork and The Chainsmokers. By night, he's widely known as one of the genre's wildest party ambadassors, playing upward of 250 shows per year in which he coats the crowd in champagne and cake and rides an inflatable raft out into the audience. Although he was scheduled to perform at Madison Square Garden next month, the show has been postponed to coincide with his forthcoming album, Neon Future, which comes out on Sept. 30.
Voting for Steve Aoki's Remix Rewind will happen online at siriusxm.com/remixrewind. The program will air Sundays at 9 p.m. ET.
